LEAPP was commissioned by the architects for a proposed Sports Complex to assess the impact of the Sports Complex, planned for lands immediately adjacent to the Galway Airport, on the operations and licensing of the airport. As the proposed development was planned on lands within 520m to 1090m from the end of the airport's runway, and located directly beneath the runway approach and take-off areas west of the airport site, the developer of the Sports Complex required an aeronautical review so that any issues of an aeronautical or safety nature could be addressed before the proposal for the Sports complex proceeded into a formal Planning Application. LEAPP carried out a review of the proposed plans for the complex, undertook an obstacle analysis with respect to airport licensing, and prepared a safety case assessment of the obstacle environment for aviation and risk assessments for use of the lands for human recreational activities under the flight paths of aircraft using the Galway Airport. Aside from the immediate impact of the Sports Complex on the operations of the airport, LEAPP determined the future impacts on the airport such as for runway extension and upgrading of the airport's instrument operation and flight procedures.
