Bangkok Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi International Airport Revised Master Plans for Bangkok Dual Airports System

LEAPP was commissioned to undertake operational planning and assessments as part of the preparation of the long range Airport Master Plans for Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang International Airports. In particular, LEAPP was charged with assessing the airside and passenger terminal capacity of the two airports, and to determine the future requirements for these airports in a 'dual airport system'. The project was managed by ICAO TCB on behalf of Airports of Thailand, with Louis Berger Inc. as prime consultant, with LEAPP responsible for airport planning, capacity analysis and testing of airside and terminal planning concepts. LEAPP's role in the project was to provide advice on airside planning and operations, to carry out capacity analysis of the Suvarnabhumi Airport airside system and terminal facilities, to carry out capacity analysis of the Don Mueang International Airport airside system and terminal facilities, and establish the requirements for future airport expansion. LEAPP carried out extensive capacity testing through simulation of concepts for future development of the airside system and airspace system for both airports, simulation of modifications to the passenger terminal buildings, and provided advice to AOT on the ultimate airport configuration in both cases under the dual airport system scenario. The aim of the project was to develop master plans for the two airports, assuming both would be operational in a dual airport configuration, until such time that Don Mueang International Airport reached its capacity limit.
