Civil Aviation Airport Project Air Transport System Evaluation and Air Traffic Forecast
Asian Development Bank
Kathmandu, Nepal
LEAPP was appointed by the Asian Development Bank to determine the future requirements for airport upgrading at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, and three other regional airports in Nepal. As part of this project, LEAPP assessed the potential future air transport market that could potentially be served by the airport at Kathmandu, and the impact of this on other airports in Nepal. Those air transport routes and services considered to be reasonable prospects for development for the purposes of enhancing tourist access and providing overseas worker transport, were included in the forecast which addressed the potential air traffic levels for aircraft movements, passengers and cargo. Derived forecasts were developed for the busy day and peak hour and used as the basis for determining the infrastructure requirements for accommodating international and domestic aircraft operations and passenger traffic. From this, the projected future peak hour aircraft parking requirements and passenger flows through the international and domestic passenger terminals, were determined and used to establish the extent to which airport facilities would need to be expanded over time to accommodate forecast air traffic.
