Air Sector Development Plan
Government of Mauritius
Mauritius
As part of a broader National Transport Strategy project, LEAPP was commissioned to carry out a review of the Air Sector and prepare an air sector development plan for Mauritius and its outlying islands. This project examined the air transport services linking the Mauritius to Africa, Europe and Asia, reviewed the air navigation and air traffic services provision for air transport operations, and examined national airports on the island of Mauritius and on neighbouring offshore islands. Based on national transport activity forecasts, LEAPP established future requirements for developing, expanding and upgrading the national airports and the ATS and air navigation system. Particular attention was paid in the project to review and assess the validity of the Airport Master Plan and its proposals for future development of the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, the primary airport serving Mauritius island, and in assessing the options and plans for upgrading the constrained runway and facilities at Plaine Coreil Airport serving Rodrigues Island, the largest of the offshore islands of Mauritius.
