Runway Upgrading Project
LEAPP carried out a study to investigate how the runway at Galway Airport could be upgraded for use by BAe-146 passenger jet aircraft. Because of the limited length of the airport site between two roads, the runway could only be declared with a length of 1199m to comply with ICAO Code 2 standards. The project entailed developing the concept for the runway, with appropriate stopways and clearways, to enable the airport to support BAe-146 operations to London and other airports in the U.K., and to Paris and Amsterdam. Tasks undertaken included:

  Aircraft performance and payload/range analysis
Assessment of runway compliance with ICAO Annex 14
Runway operational planning for BAe-146-300 aircraft
Runway configuration design to maximise take-off distance within a confined site

The runway development plan prepared by LEAPP was approved for implementation by the Irish Aviation Authority.
