Aircraft Noise Modelling
As part of the upgrading of Galway Airport for passenger jet service, LEAPP undertook an assessment of future aircraft noise. A forecast of busy day air traffic was prepared, and this included proposed jet operations by BAe-146-300 regional jet aircraft, 50-passenger turboprop aircraft, small business jets, itinerant general aviation and circuit training aircraft.

Noise modelling was carried out for both directions of runway operation, and computer plots of forecast noise contours were generated. This enabled an assessment to be made of the number of residential dwellings and other buildings that could be affected by aircraft noise levels, due to forecast increased aircraft activity and the introduction of passenger jet aircraft at the airport.
